Three returning series are adding new recurring characters.

Val Emmich is joining ABC's "Ugly Betty," Ntare Mwine has been added to NBC's "Heroes" and Mario Van Peebles has come aboard FX's "Damages."

On "Betty," Emmich will play Jesse, a potential love interest for Betty (America Ferrera).

Emmich ("Cashmere Mafia") is repped by Innovative and Noble Talent.

On "Heroes," Mwine will play an African who is artistic and close to many of the original heroes. His special abilities will be developed throughout his nine-episode arc.

Mwine ("The Riches") is repped by TalentWorks.

Van Peebles will appear in six episodes of "Damages," reprising last year's guest-starring role as Agent Harrison. His acting duties stem from his stint as a director on a couple of episodes last season.

Van Peebles, repped by Fortitude and Vincent Cirrincione & Associates, also is set as a helmer on FX's new drama series "Sons of Anarchy."
