NEW YORK -- Dish Network's third-quarter profit fell 13% amid
higher costs as the satellite TV giant posted the second
consecutive subscriber gain after a year of declines. The company
also cited such costs as for patent litigation with DVR pioneer
TiVo.
Dish also said it will pay shareholders a special one-time dividend of $2 per share. Dish added 241,000 subscribers in the third quarter to boost its user base to 13.9 million.
