Syfy going into 'Outer Space'

Half-hour show is a futuristic comedy about eight astronauts

Syfy is expanding its comedy block with the premiere of five-episode comedy series "Outer Space Astronauts."

The half-hour show, which combines live-action and 2D and 3D animation technology, will debut Dec. 8, leading into the season finale of hit reality series "Scare Tactics."

"Astronauts," from creator/exec producer Russell Barrett and exec producers David O. Russell and Scott Puckett, is a futuristic comedy about eight military misfits who journey to the far reaches of the galaxy on board the O.S.S. Oklahoma.

”Syfy fans have never seen animation quite like this before," said Syfy exec vp original content Mark Stern. "Russell literally produced this in his basement for more than a year, and that allowed him to create a unique series with a sharp, sly sense of humor.”

Barrett developed, executed and edited the series out of his home and enlisted childhood and hometown friends as stars, including Adam Clinton, Stephanie Clinton, Jay Wendorff and Dana Kirk.
