'Hustle' star lured to 'Dexter' role

By Kimberly Nordyke

June 15, 2007, ET

"Hustle" co-star Jaime Murray has been tapped for a major recurring role on Showtime's "Dexter," which kicks off its second season Sept. 30.

Murray will portray Lila, an artist and former addict who becomes a close ally and friend to Dexter (Michael C. Hall), a likable Miami police forensics expert who moonlights as a serial killer of criminals. Lila is described as wild, unconventional, smart and daring and someone who plays by her own rules.

Murray will appear in 10 of the 12 episodes in "Dexter's" second season.

For "Dexter's" upcoming season, the series will be partnered with fellow drama "Brotherhood." "Dexter," the network's top-rated drama series, will air at 9 p.m. Sundays, serving as a lead-in to "Brotherhood" at 10 p.m.

The scheduling is part of a new Showtime strategy to build on the past year's momentum by using its top-rated series as lead-ins. Similarly, the network's top-rated comedy series, "Weeds," will serve as a lead-in to the new comedy "Californication," starring David Duchovny, when it returns for its third season Aug. 13. "Weeds" will air at 10 p.m., followed by "Californication" at 10:30 p.m.

Murray, who comes from London, appeared on four seasons of the BBC/AMC series "Hustle." She also was in the CBS drama pilot "Demons," which was in contention for the 2007-08 season.

She is repped by Lena Roklin at Roklin Management.
