NEW YORK -- Primetime TV viewing on the Web has gained considerably in the past year, according to a Solutions Research Group survey released Monday.

The survey said 80 million Americans watched a TV show online last year. This number accounts for 43% of the online population, up from 25% who said they watched a TV show on the Web last year.

Additionally, 20% of respondents said they watch TV on the Web on a weekly basis.

Among the respondents, ABC.com received the highest user experience score with 52% rating their time spent on the site as "excellent." Fox.com was second, receiving an "excellent" rating from 44% of those surveyed.

Popular online shows included "Heroes," "Grey's Anatomy," "Dancing With the Stars," "Ugly Betty," "Chuck" and "CSI."

Twenty-one percent of visits to the major network Web sites were from users looking to watch a specific show.

The study is based on the results of a survey of 1,150 respondents age 12 and older that was conducted last November.
