CBS lands two UppiTV projects

Samuel L. Jackson's company also extends first-look deal

Samuel L. Jackson's UppiTV has set up two projects at CBS, a multicamera comedy from writer Bob Kushell and medical drama from writer Andrea Newman.

The projects are produced by CBS TV Studios, which has extended its first-look with UppiTV for another year.

The Bob Kushell comedy is about the wife of a U.S. Congressman who inherits her husband's seat when he dies unexpectedly in the middle of his term.

The Andrea Newman drama is about an emergency-room doctor who uses unconventional methods to treat his patients.

Jackson will executive produce the projects alongside Kushell and Newman, respectively.

Amanda Tracey, who shepherds UppiTV's development, will serve as a co-executive producer on both shows.

Kushell's credits include "Samantha Who?" and "3rd Rock From the Sun"; Newman has worked on "Private Practice" and "Cold Case."

Jackson started his push in TV producing last year when he signed a first-look deal with CBS Studios and hired Tracey. His only previous stint as TV producer is with Spike TV's animated series "Afro Samurai."

He is repped by ICM, which also reps Kushell and Newman, and Anonymous.
