Berkley, Bravo mambo combo

By Kimberly Nordyke

Nov 30, 2007, ET

Elizabeth Berkley has been tapped to host Bravo's new reality competition series "Step It Up and Dance" (formerly "Step It Up"), sources said.

In addition, Broadway choreographer Jerry Mitchell will fill the role of mentor and house choreographer to the show's contestants.

"Step It Up" will feature contestants trying to master a range of dance styles, from ballet and ballroom to Broadway and burlesque. The winner will receive a cash prize.

The series is in production, shooting at locations in and around Los Angeles. A premiere date has not been announced.

Bravo declined comment Thursday.

The show is produced by Magical Elves producers Jane Lipsitz and Dan Cutforth (Bravo's "Project Runway," "Top Chef") and was created by Gunnar Wetterberg.

Berkley recently had a mutliepisode arc on CBS' "CSI: Miami." Her recent film credits include "The Curse of the Jade Scorpion" and "Roger Dodger."

She is repped by Innovative Artists and manager Adam Griffin at Kritzer/Levine/Wilkins Entertainment.

Mitchell won a Tony Award in 2005 for "La Cage aux Folles" and has received multiple nominations for productions including "Legally Blonde: The Musical," "Hairspray" and "The Full Monty." He also was nominated for an Emmy in 2000 for choreography work on ABC's "The Drew Carey Show."
