Viewers used to focus on what TV networks would air during sweeps.
This fall, the biggest headline has been what a network won't air. Fox has pushed struggling Friday night cult-favorite "Dollhouse" off the November board, clearing the night for repeats of "Bones" and "House." The network plans to air the rest of the Joss Whedon show's episodes in December, doubling them into two-hour blocks. The move sparked fan dismay over the show's fate while highlighting how much the November sweeps have changed. Once a period of high-profile stunts, now it's more like business as usual, with a smattering of very special episodes. Arguably the biggest programming event is CBS' "CSI" crossover. Starting on "CSI: Miami" on Nov. 9, Laurence Fishburne's "CSI" character Dr. Ray Langston will follow a case to Miami, New York and then back to Las Vegas. Fox will have the series premiere of "The Wanda Sykes Show" on Nov. 7, and Seth MacFarlane's "Family Guy"-themed variety special will air the next night. NBC has a two-hour "Biggest Loser" special, "Where Are They Now?" which revisits memorable contestants and will air Nov. 25. The network on Nov. 17 also has a new Thanksgiving special, "Merry Madagascar," from DreamWorks Animation. ABC will have the premiere of alien invasion drama "V" on Nov. 3. The CW will have the return of Heather Locklear on "Melrose Place" starting Nov. 17 and Hilary Duff guest starring on "Gossip Girl" on Nov. 2.
