Syndicated shows had a mostly quiet week during the seven-day frame
ending Dec. 16, with many programs in reruns as viewers busied
themselves with holiday preparations and festivities.
Among the talkers, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" hit a season high, averaging a 2.4 household rating, up 9% from the week before. "Ellen" also posted the biggest year-over-year gain over any first-run syndicated strip compared with the same week a year ago, rising 9%, according to Nielsen Media Research. Other talk shows to get a boost were "Rachael Ray" (up 5% to a 2.1, tying its season high) and "The Jerry Springer Show" (up 8% to a 1.4). Meanwhile, No. 1 talker "The Oprah Winfrey Show" hit a season low (5.2, down 5%), while runner-up "Dr. Phil" (4.5) fell 6% and third-ranked "Live With Regis and Kelly" (3.1) was down 3%. Rookie "The Morning Show With Mike and Juliet" (1.0) jumped 11% from the previous week and tied its series-high rating, while fellow freshman "The Steve Wilkos Show" (0.9) was flat. Elsewhere, the four veteran game shows were up week-over-week: "Wheel of Fortune" (8.1) 3%, "Jeopardy!" (6.6) 2%, "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" (3.2, a season high) 7% and "Family Feud (1.9) 6%. Among the rookie game shows, "Merv Griffin's Crosswords" (0.9) was up 13%, while "Temptation" (0.5) dropped 17%. The court genre mostly saw weaker numbers from the previous week. "Judge Judy" (5.0) and "Judge Joe Brown" (2.7) each were off 4%, "The People's Court" (2.4) was flat, and "Judge Mathis" (2.0, down 13%) hit a season low. Rookie "Judge David Young" (0.8) was off 11%, while fellow freshman "Jury Duty" saw its rating increase from a 0.2 to a 0.3. Among the magazine shows, "Entertainment Tonight" (4.7) and "Inside Edition" (3.4) each were down 6%, while "Access Hollywood" (2.5), "The Insider" (2.4) and "Extra" (1.8) were flat.
