AMSTERDAM -- U.S. broadcaster ABC has declined the option to
acquire the successor to "Big Brother" -- the controversial "Golden
Cage" -- from John de Mol's company Talpa.
According to a Talpa spokesperson, ABC was put off by the costs involved in producing the program. Broadcast in the Netherlands by RTL, "The Golden Cage" has contestants living together in a luxurious house with one goal: to irritate the other inhabitants into submission.
