Turner to launch truTV in Asia

HONG KONG – Time-Warner's Turner Broadcasting System is planning an Asian launch for truth, the "caught on video" channel that until last year was branded as Court TV in the U.S.
 
The announcement was made on Tuesday, the warm-up day of the Cable & Satellite Association of Asia annual conference in Hong Kong.

Scheduled for launch in early 2010, truTV is targeted at a core audience of men and women aged 29-39. It will feature original unscripted programming, much of which is told from a first-person perspective, which Turner describes as "not reality but actuality."
 
Shows confirmed as being among the initial lineup include "Black Gold," a documentary-style reality series that follows the "roughneck" personnel aboard three exploratory oil drilling rigs in Texas.
 
"truTV offers a unique brand of entertainment with real people living real lives. It's television at its most personal and uncensored," said Ian Carroll, executive vice president, Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific. "We’re confident that this channel will develop a significant viewer base in Asia."
 
The group has recently expanded its channel roster in Asia with the acquisition of entertainment and lifestyle channel MONDO 21 and Tabi Channel in Japan.
 
In April this year Turner launched a Latin American version of truTV with separate Spanish and Portuguese-language feeds.
