HONG KONG – The Sundance Channel and WEtv are to launch in Asia following a deal between Rainbow Media and MEASAT Satellite Systems.

The channels will be distributed in standard and high definition and will expand MEASAT's HD portfolio. The deal is the first time that WEtv has been available outside North America, although local carriage deals in individual Asian territories were not announced.

Technology firm Ascent Media will provide services including the HD uplink to the MEASAT-3a satellite and localized promotional spots.

WEtv is a women's channel featuring shows including "Bridezillas," "Amazing Wedding Cakes," and "The Locator." Sundance Channel falls under the creative direction of Robert Redford and runs original series including "Man Shops Globe" "Lazy Environmentalist," and "100 Mile Challenge" and the theatrical special film presentation "King Lear."

Rainbow's VOOM HD was the first high definition channel carried by Malaysia-based MEASAT.
