TORONTO -- Former Mattel exec Jim McGowan has joined Canadian animation producer Cookie Jar Entertainment as senior vp digital content and distribution.

McGowan, who will be based at Cookie Jar's Burbank office, most recently operated his own consultancy to negotiate licensing and distribution agreements and identify acquisitions for Entertainment Rights PLC, Twentieth Century Fox and Starz Media, among other clients.

Before that, McGowan completed executive stints at Mattel, Pioneer Entertainment and the Paramount Pictures Licensing Group.

Toronto-based Cookie Jar is best known for its "Caillou," "Inspector Gadget" and "The Doodlebops" cartoon series.
