COLOGNE, Germany -- Compared to the high-brow tastes otherwise represented in the European Film Awards, the nominees in the EFA's People's Choice category are refreshingly mainstream.

This year's nominees, announced Monday, include Oscar winner and global blockbuster "Slumdog Millionaire," French actioner "Transporter 3," kids animation feature "Fly Me to the Moon" and two Swedish crossover titles: the vampire film "Let the Right One In" and conspiracy thriller "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo."

Other nominees include '70s terrorist epic "The Baader Meinhof Complex" from German director Uli Edel, the biopic "Coco Before Chanel" from France's Anne Fontaine, Pedro Almodovar's "Broken Embraces," British period drama "The Duchess" from Saul Dibb and Gianni di Gregorio's Italian drama "Mid-August Lunch."

European film fans can vote for their favorites starting Sept. 1 on www.peopleschoiceaward.org. The People's Choice category is the only one of the EFA awards not voted on by members of the European Film Academy.

EFA winners will be announced at the 22nd European Film Awards in Essen, Germany, on Dec. 12.
