Semifinal between Roddick and Murray drew 10 mil

LONDON -- More than 11 million viewers watched Roger Federer's epic five-set victory over Andy Roddick in the Wimbledon men's final Sunday, giving the BBC its best viewing tally for the championships in five years.

The final scored even more viewers than the semifinal between Roddick and hot-favorite British contender Andy Murray, which drew 10 million viewers two days before.

The Wimbledon final saw Federer lift the coveted All England Club trophy for a record sixth time, but the five-set game -- which was eventually won 18 games to 16 in the marathon final set -- played havoc with BBC schedules as the match ran well over the anticipated time.

The BBC ran its early-evening news and then the Sunday evening edition of "Antiques Roadshow" on BBC2 to avoid breaking off from the game. On Friday, the home favorite Murray was beaten by Roddick in a four-set game that drew in 10 million viewers at its peak.
