Matthias Alberti resigns from Pro7

Andreas Bartl remains as sole managing director

BERLIN -- Matthias Alberti is stepping down as co-head of German free-TV at European broadcast group ProSiebenSat.1, the company said Thursday.

Andreas Bartl will remain as sole managing director of the division, which oversees ProSieben's four German free-to-air channels.

Alberti has been with ProSiebenSat.1 for seven years, mostly with Berlin-based channel Sat.1. He has seen some of the best and worst times for the network.

As head of entertainment at Sat.1 from 2002-2007 he was responsible for giving the greenlight to hits including science show "Clever," improv sketch format "Schiller Street" and award-winning sitcom "Pastewka." But his term running the channel, from 2007-2008 was marked by unpopular cost-cutting and a series of ratings flops.

Alberti will continue to act as an adviser for ProSiebenSat.1.
