TORONTO -- Canada's TV awards got down to kids play Tuesday night as the stop-motion cartoon reality series "Life's a Zoo.tv" from Cuppa Coffee Studios earned the Gemini for best animated series.

"Life's a Zoo.tv," a multiplatform kids comedy, beat out another Cuppa Coffee entrant, "Rick and Steve, the Happiest Gay Couple in the World"; "Jibber Jabber," from Jibber Jabber Toons; and Amberwood Entertainment's "Rollbots."

As the Geminis held a second successive night of pre-gala telecast prize-giving, "Rollbots" snagged a trophy for best animation direction for George Elliott.

Other trophy winners included Disney Channel's "Life With Derek," from Shaftesbury Films, earning the Gemini for best kids fictional series, and a best kids show performance for lead Michael Seater.

And "TVO Kids -- Mark's Moments," a magazine series that profiles young people with disabilities, picked up the Gemini for best kids nonfiction series.

In the drama and comedy categories, Geminis went to Showtime's "The Tudors" for best sound, photography and picture editing, while "The Young Romantic" won for best comedy photography and picture editing.

Trophies in the top Gemini categories will be handed out by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television on Nov. 14 in Calgary during a live broadcast on Global Television.
