LONDON -- Canadian filmmaker Atom Egoyan is in town to deliver the British Academy of Film and Television Arts' annual David Lean lecture, scheduled at the organization's HQ Friday evening.

Writer/director Egoyan will follow Lean speakers of previous years including David Lynch, Woody Allen, Oliver Stone, Sydney Pollack and Robert Altman.

Egoyan's "Chloe" takes a gala screening slot during The Times BFI London Film Festival, which runs through Oct. 29.

BAFTA film committee chair Finola Dwyer said choosing Egoyan to deliver this year's lecture marries the ambitions of the annual talk to educate, inform and inspire practitioners.

"...he has a unique and distinctive voice and is one of the most remarkable figures of contemporary independent filmmaking," Dwyer said.
