65. Rachael Ray
TV host/author/magazine founder,
You wouldn't expect Ray to equate running her four-tier media empire to "a constant vacation," but then you wouldn't think she'd describe skydiving as "calming," either. The driving force behind two Food Network shows, a daytime talk show and the magazine Every Day With Rachael Ray, Ray doesn't simply wrangle a packed schedule, she thrives on it. "Even on vacation I'm up at 10 a.m. and out till 2:00 a.m.," says the culinary media mogul, for whom 2008 was a particularly good year: Her show won an Emmy, and her charity Yum-o! launched with the support of former President Bill Clinton. "You would be surprised how heads of state and Oscar winners all relax when they sit down at the kitchen table," says Ray, who believes the key to her shows and magazine is their accessibility. Ray also hints 2009 may finally yield plans for a restaurant opening, though she adds, "Personally, I'd rather cook at home in my slippers than go out to a restaurant any day." |
