'Arlen Faber' swings to Magnolia

Magnolia has picked up "Arlen Faber," a romantic dramedy starring Jeff Daniels that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.

Lauren Graham also stars in the picture, which centers on an author of spiritual books (Daniels) who gets involved with a single mother (Graham) and also forms a relationship with a former addict. John Hindman made his directing debut on the Philadelphia-set tale, with iDeal Partners Film Fund financing and Kevin Messick and Jana Edelbaum producing.

CAA and ICM brokered the sale. The acquisition for the Wagner/Cuban unit-- which will release the film this summer -- marks the second Sundance acquisition; it earlier scooped up Lynn Shelton's male comedy "Humpday."
