'Troy' wins weekend horse race

Warner Bros. Pictures' "Troy" scored an epic win at the weekend boxoffice as the Brad Pitt starrer collected an estimated $45.6 million to debut in first place, according to studio figures compiled Sunday. Last weekend's champion, Universal's monster movie "Van Helsing" dropped one spot to No. 2 with an estimated $20.1 million. Paramount's high school comedy "Mean Girls" fell from second to third place with an estimated $10.1 million. The romantic comedy "Breakin' All the Rules" from Sony's Screen Gems unit debuted in fourth place with an estimated $5.3 million, in a tie with 20th Century Fox's Denzel Washington thriller "Man on Fire." Sony's "13 Going on 30" took sixth place with an estimated $4.2 million. Warner Bros.' "New York Minute" landed at No. 7, down from fourth place a week ago, wtih an estimated $3.8 million. New Line's "Laws of Attraction" fell in love with eighth place with an estimated $2.1 million. Miramax's "Kill Bill-Vol. 2" added an estimated $1.5 million to its totals at No. 9. Lions Gate's "Godsend" rounded out the weekend top 10 with an estimated $1 million. Final figures will be released Monday.
