Duo join Baldwins

Less than two months after launching their entertainment and sports operation, Baldwin Entertainment Group, Howard and Karen Baldwin have struck a first-look deal with producing partners Bob Rehme and Nick Grillo. The first project to fall under the deal will be an adaptation of the novel "Manifest Destiny," by Brian Garfield.
"Manifest Destiny" is described as an epic of the American West during the 1880s as seen through the eyes of young Theodore Roosevelt. Kirk Ellis ("John Adams") wrote the current draft of the script.
"This is a story of a young Teddy Roosevelt, who, leaving his privileged life on the East Coast, arrives on the Dakota Plains with pearl-handled revolvers made at Tiffany's," Ellis said. "It is the story of how he becomes the man we come to know as TR, and what is surprising and appealing about the story is that the characters populating the West at that time were in their mid-20s -- young people who were literally crafting a life for themselves original to America."
Added Grillo: " 'Manifest Destiny' is a story which has never been told, the story of a true American national hero who defeated illness and all odds to become one of our country's most notable figures during a time divided by war, racism and poverty."
Rehme and Grillo have executive produced together such projects as "Deacons for Defense" for Showtime and "Gods and Generals" for Warner Bros. Pictures. Grillo's background also includes Showtime's "Conviction" and "Blind Faith," while Rehme was president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences from 1997-2001 and produced such films as "Clear and Present Danger," "Patriot Games" and "Beverly Hills Cop III."
"Howard and Karen Baldwin are entrepreneurs and risk takers who pay attention to the details of a story," Rehme said. "They are committed to making quality entertainment, and Nick and I are thrilled to be collaborating on projects with them."
Added Howard Baldwin: "I am looking forward to working with both Bob and Nick on 'Manifest Destiny' and many other projects as their vision of quality entertainment melds perfectly with ours."
Other projects to fall under the deal are expected to be announced shortly.
