Revolution in air for Murray with 'Lost City'
Murray gets 'Lost'
June 10, 2004
Oscar-nominated actor Bill Murray is joining the cast of Andy Garcia's "The Lost City," a love story set against the backdrop of the Cuban Revolution.
"City" is set in Havana and centers on cabaret owner Fico (Garcia), who is slowly drawn into the drama of the fall of the Batista regime and the rise of Fidel Castro.
Murray plays a character simply known as the Writer, an American expatriate who is Fico's friend.
Already cast are Steven Bauer, Inez Sastre, Tomas Milian and Nestor Carbonell. Dustin Hoffman has a cameo.
Principal photography is scheduled to begin June 23 in the Dominican Republic.
Garcia is producing under his CineSon Prods. banner along with Frank Mancuso Jr. and Crescent Drive Pictures, the partnership between Garcia, Tom T. Gores, and Johnny O. Lopez. Paradigm president Sam Gores was instrumental in helping set up the film and financing.
Lions Gate is distributing internationally.
Murray recently wrapped "The Life Aquatic" for director Wes Anderson and supplies the voice of Garfield the cat in the upcoming "Garfield: The Movie." He was nominated for an Oscar for last year's "Lost in Translation." He is repped by attorney David Nochimson.
