Bridges back with Gilliam on 'Tideland'

NEW YORK -- Actor Jeff Bridges is coming aboard Terry Gilliam's next feature, "Tideland," sources said, a move that reunites the actor and director who last teamed in 1991 for the Oscar-winning feature "The Fisher King."
Bridges joins a cast that already includes 9-year-old newcomer Jodelle Ferland, Jennifer Tilly, Janet McTeer and Brendan Fletcher (HR 9/3).
Based on Mitch Cullin's Southern gothic novel -- and adapted for the big screen by Tony Grisoni ("Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas") -- "Tideland" follows the story of a girl who creates a surreal fantasy world to escape the pain of her father's death.
Recorded Picture Co. chairman Jeremy Thomas is producing, with Gabriella Martinelli of Toronto-based Capri Films co-producing.
Hanway Films, the sales arm of Recorded Picture Co., is handling worldwide distribution, with Capri rolling out "Tideland" in Canada.
The U.K.-Canadian co-production is additionally backed by the Foresight Film Partnership, Telefilm Canada, Astral Media, the Canadian Television Fund and the Harold Greenberg Fund. The script was developed with assistance from the U.K. Film Council.
Bridges is repped by UTA and manager Neil Koenigsberg. He most recently starred in Focus Features' "The Door in the Floor."
