Fox's 'Great Champ' runs fourth Tuesday
Tough bout for 'Champ'
SepT 15, 2004
"The Next Great Champ" just can't catch a break.
Round two of Fox's new boxing reality series on Tuesday was beaten just as badly as it was in last week's debut. The Oscar De la Hoya-fronted "Champ" ran a distant fourth in its 9 p.m. time slot, even coming in under ABC's back-to-back "According to Jim" repeats with an average of 5 million viewers and 2.4 rating/6 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research. The bright spot for "Champ" was the spike the show posted at the half-hour mark with men 18-49 (from 2.3/7 to 3.0/8) and men 18-34 (from 2.5/8 to 3.3/10).
Fox was better off at 8 p.m. with a fresh episode of "Trading Spouses: Meet Your New Mommy" (7.3 million, 3.3/10), which won the hour in adults 18-49.
Meanwhile, the third outing of NBC's new animated comedy "Father of the Pride" dipped in adults 18-49 but was unchanged from the previous week in viewers (9.6 million, 4.0/11).
The peacock's big-budget new CG once again took a big leap from its less-than-potent lead-in, "Last Comic Standing" (6 million, 2.4/7), but was still beaten in viewers and tied in the demo by CBS' "Big Brother 5" (10.1 million, 4.2/11). "Comic" was even topped by CBS' "NCIS" repeat (10.1 million, 2.6/8) in the 8 p.m. hour. NBC was also soft at 9:30 p.m. with "Scrubs" (7.6 million, 3.5/9).
At 10 p.m., CBS remained demo dominant with "The Amazing Race" (10.2 million, 4.7/13), which like "Big Brother" is gearing up for next week's finale. But the eye network lost the hour by a hair in viewers to NBC's "Law & Order: SVU" repeat (10.4 million, 3.5/10). ABC didn't get many takers for its 10 p.m. repeat of Monday's premiere episode of the Mark Cuban-fronted reality entry "The Benefactor" (4.2 million, 1.7/5).
For the night, CBS was No. 1 in viewers (10.2 million) and adults 18-49 (3.8/11), followed by NBC (8.3 million, 3.2/9).
