'Evil' pays for pair

In the wake of a No. 1 debut by "Resident Evil: Apocalypse" in the boxoffice rankings last weekend, two of that film's stars are moving on to new projects.

Milla Jovovich -- who toplined Screen Gems' "Evil" as well as its 2002 predecessor as the head of a military team battling virus-spawned mutants -- is in negotiations to star in ".45," an indie about a married couple involved in small-time crime in New York's Hell's Kitchen during the mid-1970s.

Oded Fehr, who co-stars in the second "Evil" movie, has signed on for John Gatins' "Dreamer" at DreamWorks.

Jovovich will play the wife in ".45," which, though it will contain comic elements, also promises to explore domestic violence and its consequences. It is being written and directed by Gary Lennon, who wrote and produced 1995's "Drunks." Set to begin filming Nov. 11 in New York, the film is being produced by Brad Wyman and Donald Kushner, two of the producers of "Monster," which won the best actress Oscar for Charlize Theron. It is being financed through Wyman and Kushner's Junction Films.

"We are overjoyed having Milla topline our film," the producers said. "She has three B's: beauty, brains, brawn. We feel this role will be as pivotal for her career as 'Monster' was for Charlize."

Geyer Kosinski will serve as executive producer.

Jovovich will next be seen in another futuristic action movie, "Ultraviolet," from Screen Gems. Her credits include the indie "Dummy," in which she starred opposite Adrien Brody; "The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc"; and "The Fifth Element."

She is repped by ICM, Kosinski's Media Talent Group and attorney David Warren.

In "Dreamer," Fehr joins a cast that includes Kurt Russell, Dakota Fanning, Elisabeth Shue, Freddy Rodriguez and Kris Kristofferson. The Tollin/Robbins-produced project is partially financed by Hyde Park Entertainment.

Shooting starts this month on the film that follows the story of a Kentucky horse trainer (Russell) and his daughter (Fanning) who rescue a horse with a broken leg, nurse it back to health and race it in the Breeders' Cup. Fehr is playing a horse owner.

Producers on the project include Tollin/Robbins partners Mike Tollin and Brian Robbins along with Hunt Lowry. Bill Johnson is executive producing along with Hyde Park's Ashok Armitraj and Jon Jashni. The project is being overseen by production executive David Beaubaire for production topper Adam Goodman.

Fehr recently finished reprising his role in the sequel to "Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo" as well as a role in the Showtime pilot "The Cell." He's repped by Mosaic Media Group, IFA Talent Agency and attorney Geoff Oblath.
