Clooney, Blanchett do 'Good'
'Good' work
April 8, 2005
"The Good German" has captured the attention of George Clooney and Cate Blanchett.
Clooney is in talks about the project, and Blanchett has entered into negotiations to topline the romantic thriller, which Steven Soderbergh is directing for Warner Bros. Pictures. Soderbergh and Clooney are producing through their Section Eight Prods.
"German" follows an American journalist who is sent to cover the Allied summit meeting that will carve out control of post-World War II Germany. However, the reporter is secretly there to search for a lost love, and when the body of an American soldier washes up in the Russian zone, he is plunged into a murder mystery.
Paul Attanasio wrote the screenplay, which is based on a 2001 book by Joseph Kanon.
A September start date is being eyed.
"Good German" would be the fifth time Soderbergh would direct Clooney. The two teamed for "Out of Sight," "Ocean's Eleven," "Solaris" and "Ocean's Twelve."
CAA-repped Clooney is directing and starring in "Goodnight, and Good Luck," about the life story of broadcast journalist Edward R. Murrow and producer Fred Friendly's fight to take down Sen. Joseph McCarthy.
Blanchett won a best supporting actress Oscar for her performance in "The Aviator" and is attached to star in "Babel" with Brad Pitt. She is repped by CAA.
