May 3, 2005
The Weinsteins are ramping up. Zach Braff and Amanda Peet are in negotiations to star in the upcoming comedy "Fast Track" for 2929 Prods. and This Is That Prods. The film will be released domestically by the WeinsteinCo, Bob and Harvey Weinstein's new company.
Jesse Peretz is set to direct the film, which will begin principal photography in July in Los Angeles. Ted Hope, Anthony Bregman, Anne Carey and 2929 Prods.' Marc Butan are producing. 2929 Entertainment heads Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner are executive producing.
Written by David Guion and Michael Handelman, the story centers on an underachiever who is forced to take a job he doesn't want -- working for his father-in-law -- after his wife becomes pregnant and quits her high-paying job.
"With the success of 'Garden State' and Ted Hope's 'In the Bedroom,' we could not be more excited to be working with this team on this film," Harvey Weinstein said.
Added Butan: "There couldn't be two better people to release this film than Harvey and Bob, whose marketing savvy will bring the film to the widest possible audience. We're delighted to be one of the first films to be released by their new company."
Said Hope: "This is a project that will reach a broad audience in both the domestic and international markets. Partnering with 2929 in the production and with the Weinsteins for distribution is the perfect combination for the film."
Braff is working on "The Last Kiss," with Tony Goldwyn directing. His credits include "Scrubs" and "Garden State," which he also wrote and directed.
Peet stars in "A Lot Like Love" and "Melinda and Melinda." She recently signed on to star in "The Martian Child" for New Line Cinema.
Peretz also is set to direct "Snow Angels" and helmed "First Love, Last Rights."
Peet is represented by the Gersh Agency. Braff is repped by CAA. Guion, Handelman and Peretz are represented by UTA. The writing duo's credits include the upcoming Scott Rudin feature "Neighborhood Watch," "Toy Story 3" and "Used Guys," which is set up at 20th Century Fox.
