Hypnotic inks first-look pact at NBC Uni TV

Hypnotic, the production banner headed by Doug Liman and Dave Bartis, has signed a two-year, first-look development pact with NBC Universal Television Studio.

The Los Angeles-based company has its oars in a range of waters, from commercial production to marketing campaigns to feature films directed by Liman, whose credits include "Go," "Swingers," "The Bourne Identity" and most recently, the Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie starrer "Mr. & Mrs. Smith." Liman also directed the pilot of Fox's hit teen soap "The O.C."

Hypnotic's memorable TV blurbs include the "Terry Tate: Office Linebacker" Reebok spot that bowed during the 2003 Super Bowl and the creation of the Chrysler Million Dollar Film Festival initiative that garnered significant industry attention.

NBC Uni TV Studio president Angela Bromstad gushed about the opportunity to work with Liman and Bartis, a former NBC executive who helped develop "Will & Grace," among other shows in the 1990s.

"Doug has made some of our favorite films -- 'Go,' 'Swingers,' 'The Bourne Identity' and 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith' -- and we are impressed with their ability to have (helped launch) 'The O.C.,' the first young soap to come along in some time," Bromstad said. "Their tastes and sensibilities are a good fit for the studio and network. We expect to have a very successful venture."

Hypnotic most recently had an overall TV production pact with Warner Bros. Television, the studio behind "The O.C." In January 2004, the company was acquired by Las Vegas-based American Vantage Media, with Bartis remaining as CEO and Liman as vice chairman.

Hypnotic's deal with NBC Uni TV Studio was brokered by CAA and attorney Alan Grodin.
