Leelee Sobieski and Ellen Burstyn are joining Nicolas Cage in Neil LaBute's indie "The Wicker Man," produced by Millenium Films, Equity Pictures and Emmett/Furla Films.
A remake of a 1973 British horror film, "Wicker Man" centers on a police officer (Cage) who is investigating the disappearance of a girl in a small cultlike community. Sobieski plays a barmaid who is Cage's confidant. Burstyn plays the head of the cult.
The film is shooting in Vancouver.
John Thompson, Boaz Davidson, Randall Emmett, Norm Golightly and Cage are producing. Avi Lerner, Danny Dimbort and George Furla are executive producing.
It has been a busy year for Sobieski, who has a slew of upcoming films including "Dungeon Siege," "Heavens Fall," "Dark Places" and "The Optimist." Her credits include "Joy Ride," "Eyes Wide Shut" and "Deep Impact" as well as an Emmy-nominated turn as the title character in "Joan of Arc," which aired on CBS.
Burstyn recently reteamed with helmer Darren Aronofsky on the upcoming sci-fi thriller "The Fountain." They worked together on "Requiem for a Dream," for which Burstyn received a best actress Academy Award nomination. She is a six-time Oscar nominee, having won for 1974's "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore."
Sobieski is repped by UTA, Malatier Artists, Current Entertainment and lawyer Craig Emanuel. Burstyn is repped by CAA and Benderspink.
