Shakur script lives to 'Tell' at Insomnia

Shakur's script sold

Insomnia Media Group has acquired "Live 2 Tell," the only film script ever written by the late rap star Tupac "2Pac" Shakur.

The script was acquired from the performer's mother, Afeni Shakur, who will produce the project with Preston Holmes, associate producer of "Hustle & Flow."

Insomnia will develop "Live 2 Tell" as a feature film, with principal photography to begin in March. The script, which actor-rapper Shakur wrote in 1995 as a starring vehicle for himself, centers on a black teen from the projects who becomes a drug kingpin and then turns his life around.

William J. McDonald, producer of HBO's "Rome," will serve as executive producer of "Live 2 Tell"; Ziggy Kormandel and Steven Zellers will co-produce. The production company is represented by Endeavor.

Indie production company Insomnia creates, develops, finances and produces feature films, TV series and books. It has been involved in such recent projects as HBO's "Rome"; the A&E docudrama "Inked"; VH1's reality series "Driven" and "Bands Reunited"; the feature comedy "Blue Sombrero"; and Jose Canseco's recent best-seller, "Juiced."

Shakur, who died Sept. 13, 1996, following a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, was one of the top gangsta rappers of his day. His hit albums included "2Pacalypse Now," "All Eyez on Me" and "The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory." He also became a prominent actor, taking leading roles in such features as "Juice," "Poetic Justice," "Above the Rim," "Gridlock'd" and "Gang Related."

His career has enjoyed a long afterlife: A dozen posthumous albums have been released, and he has been the subject of two documentaries, "Biggie & Tupac" and "Tupac: Resurrection."
