Scott Free Prods. promotes Zucker to TV unit chief

Riding the success of their first scripted network series, the CBS drama "Numbers," producers Ridley and Tony Scott have promoted David Zucker to president of television of their Scott Free Prods.

The company has extended its deal with "Numbers" co-producer Paramount Network Television for another year under the one-year pact with an option for a second the two sides inked last year.

Under the deal with Paramount TV, Scott Free is busy working on its development slate for next season that includes three drama projects for CBS, including "Cutter," from "National Treasure" writer Jim Kouf. Stephen Dorff is attached to star in the project, which follows the professional and personal lives of the crew of a Coast Guard cutter. Dorff, his producing partner, Tucker Tooley, and Kouf are executive producing.

"New Mexico," from writer Julie Hebert (NBC's "ER") is said to combine spirituality and high-tech science. Producer Brooke Kennedy ("Numbers") is on board to exec produce the project with Hebert.

The third drama project is "Orpheus," from Oscar- and Emmy-nominated writer-director Nicholas Meyer ("The Human Stain").

Zucker is overseeing all three shows for Scott Free.

Zucker, a former CBS and Warner Bros. Television executive, joined Scott Free as vp television about four years ago, when the company began its push in scripted television series with a two-year deal at CBS (HR 4/5/2002).

Scott Free has stayed in the CBS family ever since, striking gold with "Numbers," the math-meets-crime investigation series from creators Cheryl Heuton and Nicholas Falacci, which has been a solid 10 p.m. anchor for CBS on Friday, dominating the competition on the night.

In its last airing, the show starring David Krumholtz and Rob Morrow averaged 12.7 million viewers and a 3.5 rating/10 share among adults 18-49.

On the longform TV side, Scott Free, along with John Calley Prods. and Sony Pictures TV, is shepherding "The Company," a six-hour limited series for TNT (HR 11/2).
