"Brokeback Mountain" was named picture of the year Sunday as the Producers Guild of America honored the top film and television projects of the past year.

Producers Diana Ossana and James Schamus took the honors for "Brokeback" (Focus Features), a sweeping love story about two Wyoming cowboys.

" 'Brokeback Mountain' was a story that had been sitting there waiting to be told," said Ossana. "It's an honor and I am deeply humbled to be included in the company of such stellar and passionate filmmakers."

The Darryl F. Zanuck Producer of the Year award for theatrical motion picture can be a harbinger of which feature will win the best picture Oscar. The PGA's award has been the same as the Academy Award in most of the past 16 years, the most recent exception being last year.

The PGA Awards ceremony was hosted by Queen Latifah and held at the Universal Hilton.

Other winners included "Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit" (DreamWorks Animation) for animated film, with producers Claire Jennings and Nick Park accepting the honors.

The David L. Wolper Producer of the Year award for long-form television went to HBO's "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers," produced by Freddy DeMann, George Faber and Charles Pattinson.

ABC's "Lost" won the Norman Felton Producer of the Year award for episodic drama, with producers J.J. Abrams, Damon Lindelof, Bryan Burk, Jack Bender, Jean Higgins and Carlton Cuse sharing the award.

HBO's "Entourage" took home the prize for episodic television comedy, the Danny Thomas Producer of the Year award. The winning producers were Doug Ellin, Stephen Levinson, Julian Farino, Mark Greenberg and Wayne Carmona.

In variety television, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" (Warner Bros. Television) earned the honor, which was shared by Ellen DeGeneres, Mary Connelly, Ed Glavin, Andy Lassner and Karen Kilgariff.

"60 Minutes" (CBS) won for nonfiction television, with the award going to producer Jeff Fager.

The PGA Awards also distributed several achievement awards.

Clint Eastwood received the Milestone Award, while Roger Corman got the David O. Selznick Achievement Award in theatrical motion pictures.

Norman Lear was recognized with the Producers Guild Achievement Award in television, while the Stanley Kramer Award was presented to Grant Heslov.
