Jeff Goldblum is in final negotiations to star in NBC's drama pilot "Seeing Red," Anne Heche is set to topline ABC's one-hour "Men in Trees," and Gale Harold has landed the lead in another high-profile drama pilot, Fox's "Vanished."

Meanwhile, Oscar-nominated Bruce Beresford and "Scrubs" creator Bill Lawrence are set to direct their first pilots with CBS' drama "Orpheus" and NBC's single-camera comedy "Alpha Mom," respectively.

In other pilot-casting news, Jodi Lyn O'Keefe has joined Fox's comedy pilot "The 12th Man," and Bonnie Somerville has been tapped to star opposite Danny Comden in his comedy pilot for ABC.

"Red," from NBC Universal TV Studio, will be directed by Oscar-nominated Frank Darabont from a script by Graham Yost. It centers on an eccentric, brilliant cop (Goldblum) with the ability to talk to dead victims, who help him solve his cases.

Goldblum, most recently seen in the feature "The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou" and in an Emmy-nominated recurring role on NBC's "Will & Grace," won an Outer Critics Circle Award and was nominated for a Drama Desk Award and Drama League Award for his performance in Broadway's "The Pillowman." He is repped by the Gersh Agency and Keith Addis of Industry Entertainment.

"Men in Trees," from Warner Bros. TV, centers on a female shrink (Heche) who moves to Alaska after she learns that her husband had been cheating on her, only to discover herself surrounded by available men.

Also cast in the pilot, written by Jenny Bicks and to be directed by James Mangold, are Derek Richardson ("Hostel") and Emily Bergl (WB Network's "Gilmore Girls").

Cathy Konrad is exec producing with Bicks and Mangold.

Heche most recently starred in the L.A. Theatre Works production of George Bernard Shaw's "Arms and the Man," the CBS telefilm "Silver Bells" and a multiepisode arc on FX's "Nip/Tuck." She is repped by CAA and Untitled Entertainment.

Richardson is repped by Gersh and Sandra Chang at Industry.

"Vanished," from 20th Century Fox TV, chronicles the disappearance of a senator's wife over the course of the season. Josh Berman penned the script, and Mimi Leder is directing.

In addition to the starring role in "Vanished," Harold also recently landed a recurring role on HBO's dark Western "Deadwood," playing Wyatt Earp. The actor, probably best known for his starring role on Showtime's "Queer as Folk," is repped by Gersh and managers Suzanne DeWalt and Larry Taube.

The CBS Paramount Network TV-produced "Orpheus," written by Nick Meyer and exec produced by Meyer, Ridley Scott, Tony Scott and David Zucker, chronicles the journey of a young man (Nick D'Agosto) into first love and the seductive world of a sophisticated, modern-day cult.

After "Orpheus," Beresford is slated to direct the feature thriller "The Code" starring John Cusack and Morgan Freeman.

"Alpha Mom," from NBC Uni TV and writer/exec producer Kerry Ehrin, centers on a corporate mom who tries to balance kids, a stay-at-home husband and a job.

Lawrence, who has directed episodes of his NBC single-camera comedy "Scrubs," is repped by BWCS' Ted Chervin, manager Howard West and attorney Jared Levine.

The single-camera "12th Man," from 20th TV, is inspired by the stories from former NBA player Paul Shirley about his life as a not-so-good professional basketball player who spends most of the time on the team's bench.

O'Keefe will play the assistant general manager of the basketball team.

The actress, who did a multi-episode arc on ABC's "Boston Legal," is repped by Innovative Artists and manager Vincent Cirrincione.

The Comden pilot, from WBTV and Wonderland Sound and Vision, centers on an egotistical real estate agent (Comden) who decides to change his life after realizing that he hates who he has become.

Somerville, whose recent series credits include Fox's "Kitchen Confidential" and ABC's "NYPD Blue," is repped by ICM and McKeon/Valeo/Myones Management.

In other pilot-casting news, Mircea Monroe ("The Code") and Margo Harshman (WB's "Run of the House") have joined the cast of Fox's "The Adventures of Big Handsome Guy and His Little Friend."

Harshman is repped by APA and manager Elaine Lively.
