Father's day for Mulroney with 'Gracie'

'Gracie' casting

Gregg Goldstein
NEW YORK -- Dermot Mulroney has joined the cast of Davis Guggenheim's "Gracie," a story inspired by events in the life of actors Elisabeth and Andrew Shue, which Picturehouse will release in summer 2007.

The film centers on a young girl's battle to join a boy's soccer team. Mulroney will take on the role of the father of the girl, Gracie, who is to be played by Carly Schroeder.

In the film, which began filming Monday in New Jersey, Elisabeth Shue plays Gracie's mother; Andrew Shue plays her coach.

Guggenheim directed this summer's surprise indie hit, the environmental docu "An Inconvenient Truth." Andrew Shue, best known as Billy on the TV series "Melrose Place," makes his producing debut on the project with Lemore Sylvan of Elevation Filmworks and Guggenheim.

"We're proud to be involved in this exciting and personal story of the Shue family," Picturehouse president Bob Berney said. "It's great to handle Davis' next project after his recent success."

Sylvan's Elevation Filmworks produced Laurie Collyer's "Sherrybaby," which IFC Films will release next month.

Mulroney is repped by ICM.
