Commercial director Ruben Fleischer will make his directorial debut on "Psycho Funky Chimp," a comedy being produced by MTV Films and Todd Phillips.
The script, written by Michael Bacall, follows a 26-year-old who buys the rarest of Pez dispensers, the Psycho Funky Chimp, a purchase that attracts vultures, thieves and fanboys and makes him question whether he really is ready to grow up.
Fleischer got his start in the film industry as an assistant to Miguel Arteta on "Chuck & Buck" and "The Good Girl." He then went on to direct commercials and music videos for such acts as M.I.A. and DJ Format. He also directed comedy segments on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in addition to a documentary on a "Cannonball Run"-esque race titled "Gumball 3000: 6 Days in May." A comedic reality TV show he co-created, "Rob and Big Black," premieres in November on MTV.
Fleischer is repped by UTA, Kaplan-Perrone and attorney Warren Dern.
