Couple pair on drama

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have teamed with writer-producers Jan Nash and Jennifer Levin for a medical drama set at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

CBS has given a put pilot commitment to the project from CBS Paramount Network TV and Smith's Overbrook Entertainment.

Based on an idea by Smith and Pinkett Smith, the untitled drama is described as a mix of mysterious and emotional stories. It chronicles the medical adventures of the CDC doctors who fight the diseases and viruses that threaten people worldwide.

Nash and Levin, both under overall deals at CBS Par TV, will write the pilot script. The two will executive produce with Smith, Pinkett Smith and James Lassiter, Smith's partner at Overbrook. Overbrook's Miguel Melendez will serve as producer.

Nash and Levin became close while working together on CBS' crime drama "Without a Trace," co-produced by CBS Par TV.

Nash, who has been on the show since its first episode, serves as executive producer/showrunner. Levin worked on "Trace" for the first three seasons before segueing into development under her deal with CBS Par TV.

Nash's series credits also include "Ellen," "Caroline in the City" and "Family Law." She is repped by ICM and attorney James Mandelbaum.

Levin was executive producer/showrunner on WB Network's "Felicity." She is repped by Endeavor.

Overbrook's first TV series, "All of Us," which Smith and Pinkett Smith co-created and are executive producing, is in its fourth season. The family sitcom ran on WB before making the transition to the CW this fall.

Overbrook is repped by CAA and attorney Jason Sloane. Smith is repped by CAA. Pinkett Smith is repped by ICM.
