Cedric, Milian stay 'Cool' for next 'Shorty'

Duo will 'Be Cool'

Chris Gardner
Cedric the Entertainer and Christina Milian are cool enough for MGM.

The duo will star in the studio's comedy "Be Cool," the F. Gary Gray-directed sequel to "Get Shorty." Lensing starts the first week of February. Cedric and Milian join a cast that includes John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Danny DeVito, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Joe Pesci, Vince Vaughn and James Gandolfini.

"Be Cool" revolves around Chili Palmer, a loan shark-turned-feature film producer who gives up the movie business when he discovers a singer, Linda Moon (Milian), whom he wants to make famous. Cedric will star as Sin Russell, a record producer and manager for a popular rap group.

Peter Steinfeld penned the screenplay. Former Jersey Films partners DeVito, Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher are producing along with Elmore Leonard and Michael Siegel. At the studio, the project is being shepherded by MGM's Elizabeth Cantillon and Stephanie Palmer.

The project reteams Cedric with MGM. He has been in business with the studio on "Barbershop" and the upcoming "Barbershop: Back in Business." His company Bird and a Bear, which he runs with manager/producing partner Eric Rhone, also has a production deal at the studio. Cedric is repped by CAA, Rhone and attorney Nina Shaw.

Milian, coming off the release of Warner Bros. Pictures' "Love Don't Cost a Thing," is repped by Innovative Artists and attorney Steve Warren. She wrapped a lead role in the Revolution Studios' comedy "Cheer Up" opposite Tommy Lee Jones and is prepping for the release of her sophomore album. The first single from the Island Def Jam release, "Dip It Low," is due in March.
