PARK CITY -- "Monster's Ball" producer Lee Daniels, who produced the Sundance Dramatic Competition selection "The Woodsman," starring Kevin Bacon, will make his directorial debut on the indie gangster project "Shadowboxer." Daniels is making deals for his ensemble cast and has already lined up Wes Bentley for a starring role in the film.
Additional casting will be announced shortly, with shooting scheduled to start April 1 in Philadelphia. "Shadowboxer," penned by "Monster's Ball" co-scribe Will Rokos, centers on the unusual relationship between a mother and her stepson. The duo, who have a romantic relationship, work as contract killers. Bentley will play the lead villain on the hunt for the killer couple.
Daniels, who also reps Bentley as part of his management business, has recruited famed fashion designer Vivienne Westwood to make her feature film debut as the project's stylist, sources confirmed.
Bentley, who most recently appeared onscreen opposite Heath Ledger and Kate Hudson in "Four Feathers," recently wrapped the soccer film "The Game of Their Lives." He is additionally repped by CAA and attorney Michael Fuller.
Daniels is at work at Sundance, fielding distribution offers for Nicole Kassell's "Woodsman," which has received positive buzz following its debut Monday night.
