Watchmen
And I've never heard of the Watchmen...
I'm a 34 year old woman, mother of 3, and by my own biased conclusion, pretty darn smart. I loved this movie. I loved it because it was very thought provoking. Even now I can come up with another angle on what it says about the world and some new philosophy to ponder based on having watched this movie. If you are not open to questioning your basic concepts on what defines 'right' vs 'wrong', don't bother to see the movie and certainly don't try to write a review on it. The graphic fighting, gore, and nudity were needed to get across the message. Humanity is being shown without any costumes. The naked human soul. The masks are irony. The results? Humanity, even the super ones, can be very very ugly, and how does someone take something with so much ugly potential and make it beautiful? Or, if you have the power to do that, does it make you so powerful that you don't even care enough about humanity anymore to put in the effort? A wonderful, intellectual, complex film.

The Honeycutt review
Here is my review of the Kurt Honeycutt review: It was pathetic The analysis, if you can even call it that, consists of nothing more than the reviewer's personal opinion. There is no objectivity here. But I guess "critics" are paid to find fault in things, arn't they? Everything the reviewer said is wrong. Including his prediction of a box office "flop". In fact, watchmen spent some time on the top spot. Leave the reviews of this type of material to the people who understand it, or at the very least have some vague appriciation for it. As for the film itself. It is great. Go see it.

Does anyone think anymore?
I am so sick of evryone who hasn't read the comic, or didn't understand the movie, bashing this film. Watchmen is not supposed to be a mind-numbing action flick, so if your not prepared to think, don't see this movie. Both the movie and the comic are brilliantly done, with complex charaters and themes. So, if you say that this movie was confusing, you obviously haven't read the comic, and your not very smart. I'm also sick of people saying that parts of the film were stupid, or unecessary. For instance, alot of people are saying that the rape scene was unecessary.I hate this, because if you read the comic, or have any understanding of plot developement, you would know that the rape scene was key in the developement of many characters. I also get ticked off when people make fun of Dr.M's trip to mars, because that is an insult directed at Alan Moore, and the brilliant piece of art that is Watchmen. All in all, if you don't want to think when you go to see a movie, or just want some mind-numbing action, Watchmen is not for you. And, if you did see it and found it confusing, that's just because you're not smart enough to comprehend true genius.

Great film
If you want to see a straightforward, predictable, non-challenging comic book movie, The Watchmen is not for you. If you want to see a beautiful and intellectually challenging film, The Watchmen IS for you.

Seeing this in IMAX on Sunday...
I've neither seen this movie nor read the comic but I'll be seeing this in IMAX on Sunday, so wish me luck. Just the talk of this movie, never mind the nutty comic upon which it's based, make this the most interesting and plainly curious movie to see in the theaters today.

Don't Watch(men)
The film is utter crap. The special effects might have been good by 1985 standards, but this is 2009.

Watchmen
The movie is a bit long and could have been told in seperate parts. I think most of the movie was well made, graphics were excellent. If you dont like super hero methology then you will not like this movie. This movie is not a good as The Dark Knight but it is certainly one of the more realistic super heroe movies. Dont go in there waiting to see something like X-men and Spiderman whome are chumps in comparison. These guys break limbs and walk around nude. This isnt a movie for your kids.

Caution Required
Please use CAUTION when going to see this movie. I didn't really know much about it going in...just that it was supposed to be the newest biggest best movie of all time...breaking box offices everywhere. Well in an effort to be part of the frenzy I took my two teenage daughters to see it in IMAX for maximum effect. Let me say right at the beginning that I was MORTIFIED to have my kids in the theater with me. The movie started out with quite a bit of language..but hey you come to expect that from R rated films these days right? Then it continued until it the F**K was used as a noun, verb and adjective..sometimes in the same sentence, by nearly every character with the exception of Dr. Manhattan and the smartest man on the planet. For that of you that would like to be informed there is a good chance you will know the religious preferences of several of the characters. Doc Manhattan spent 97% of the on air time nude. While I know that he is 'animated"..do I really need to constantly have 10 inches of him displayed and swaying with each step? Finally, if you are still in the theater because you think there will be some redeeming quality to the movie, there is hope. If your dream is to take your teens to their first porn flick you are in luck! There are several scenes that show in graphic, full body, nipple pinching, finger sucking, multiple position detail sex between the female lead and at least two of the men. Honestly...this is based on a comic novel??? The joke was on me!

no real suspense
I had never heard of this comic before the commercials for the movie came out, but I often enjoy not knowing anything going in to this type of film, considering myself a control group on how the movie does on its own with no preconceived notions. I enjoyed the film and it was able to hold my interest over the long running time. The opening scene and historical montage were excellent - unfortunately they were also the best part of the movie. By the end I had this nagging feeling that something was missing but couldn't quite put my finger on it. The next morning I realized what was missing "suspense." Once you get to know all the characters and what their "deals" are, there is no real suspense. And the resolution feels like when SNL has a really funny concept for a skit, but can't come up with the killer punch line, so the skit just rambles on until it peters out, much like the ending to this movie. What is missing is the sense that something significant has occurred because there is no real heightened emotional state for the characters - even when distressed they are oddly dispassionate. For my money, V for Vendetta (which I was also completely unfamiliar with prior to seeing the film) accomplished what it seemed this movie was trying, and failed to do.

Pay attention
I believe that the reviewer went to the movie, but I don't believe he paid attention, judging by some of the misstatements that have been pointed out by others. I'd heard of The Watchmen, but never read the comic. From what I understood, it was basically social commentary in a comic book. And that's what it was. I really enjoyed this movie. It was thought-provoking (if you bother to think). If you were just looking for another Dark Knight (which this wasn't supposed to be), you'll be disappointed. That was never what this story was about. The only thing I didn't care for were the big fight scenes. They weren't badly done. (why compare them to asian films???) What I didn't like was that those scenes seemed to be thrown in there gratuitously. Wasn't much heart in them. If you go see this movie, don't turn your brain off like the reviewer evidently did. And while I'm at it, the scenes on Mars were pretty darn cool. Final thought: What if the bad guy is right?
