Star Trek
OK but very overrated!
It was a nice effort but not worthy of all the praise it is getting. Good casting, nice as exposition. Storyline was not very interesting, bad guy not particularly intimidating and his motivation hard to buy. Kirk is a jerk for most of the film but I assume he will grow in future films. Black holes apparently act completely differently in Abrams' world. You will probably enjoy it more if you aren't too much of a Trek fan.

As a novice in a family replete with Trekies?... Trekers?, this film satisfied both sets in its action-packed popcorn fare. It lacks the political allegory of reboots like the film Batman and tv show Battlestar Galactica, but no matter. The cast does a fantastic job with as tough a task as this reboot is. Standouts include Karl Urban playing Dr. McCoy and Simon Pegg playing Scotty. The casting of young Chris Pine in the role of Kirk puzzling to say the least. There is nothing shown in his performance that sets him apart from the multitude of other handsome 20-something actors in Hollywood.

1960's Trek Fan
I had the opportunity to see the film in an exhibitor's screening and was very concerned that the original ideas would be lost. After seeing the film, it is everything that a fan of the original could ask for. The is an exciting well made picture that does a teriffic job of introducing the new cast.
