'American Idol' Alum Anthony Fedorov Cast In New Jersey Production of 'The Sound Of Music'
The season four finalist stars as Rolf in the classic Rodgers & Hammerstein musical, opening at Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, N.J. Nov. 23.
Anthony Fedorov, the season four finalist who has been building an impressive list of credits in stage musicals, will add The Sound of Music to his resume when he stars as Rolf in the Paper Mill Playhouse production in Millburn, N.J., opening Nov. 23 and running through Dec. 30.
Fedorov first appeared on stage in 2007 when he was cast in a production of The Fantasticks. Since then, he has starred in six productions of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, including one in Japan, and was Roger in the off-Broadway production of Rent, which closed in September. He has starred in one other Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, when he was cast in a Nashville-based production of Cinderella.

But despite being familiar with the composers, Fedorov confesses to The Hollywood Reporter that when he was asked to audition for The Sound of Music, he had never seen the musical – neither the stage production nor the legendary motion picture. His girlfriend, actor Jennifer Paz [Miss Saigon,Les Miserables], quickly took care of that.“Jennifer said we had to bring me up to speed,” Fedorov tells THR. “We went to the library and borrowed the DVD. I finally had a chance to see the movie.”
With the producers in New York, the West Los Angeles-based Fedorov was invited to tape an audition. With help from Paz, who read and sang the role of Liesl, Fedorov recorded the audition in the bathroom of the couple’s condo. “It has great acoustics,” he laughs.

Although he only saw the movie recently, Fedorov has had a connection to the film for some time now. Following the death of his brother Denis, he became a spokesperson for the Sarcoma Foundation of America, where he has had the opportunity to interact with the Robert Urich Foundation, spearheaded by Urich’s widow, Heather Menzies Urich, who played the role of Louisa in the Robert Wise-directed motion picture, which featured Daniel Truhitte in the role of Rolf.
“Anthony will be fantastic!” Urich exclaimed to THR when asked about Fedorov being cast as Rolf. “He has always been a great supporter for Sarcoma Research and I enjoy seeing him perform every year at the Sarcoma Foundation of America's annual event in New York City. He even came to perform at the Robert Urich Foundation for Cancer Research event at the Music Box in Hollywood in November of 2011. Bravo, Anthony!”
