'American Idol' on the Charts: Adam Lambert's 'Very Best' Debuts
The season eight runner-up's latest enters the Top Internet Albums tally at No. 14. Also: new Jennifer Lopez single is poised for a Hot 100 debut.
FOR YOUR ENTERTAINMENT: A collection of greatest hits, including the singles "Whataya Want from Me" and "If I Had You," sends Adam Lambert back to the Billboard charts. Playlist enters the Top Internet Albums chart at No. 14 and Top Current Albums at No. 187.
Lambert made his Billboard chart debut the week of June 6, 2009 with the song "No Boundaries" and three other titles: "Mad World," "A Change Is Gonna Come" and "One." Season-eight winner Kris Allen saw his version of "No Boundaries" debut the same week. Counting back to that initial song, Lambert’s career chart span is expanded to five years and one week. To put it another way, the debut of Playlist marks the beginning of the second half of Lambert’s first decade on the charts.
'FIRST' IS FIRST: The second single from the forthcoming Jennifer Lopez album A.K.A. is "First Love," and appropriately, it lands in first place on the Bubbling Under the Hot 100 chart. "First Love" rockets 23 to 1, which should give it enough momentum to propel it onto the Hot 100 next week.
If "First Love" does blast onto the main pop singles chart, it will be Lopez' 23rd song as a lead artist to appear on this list. She made her Hot 100 debut the week of May 15, 1999 with "If You Had My Love," which went on to rule the tally for five weeks. If "First Love" does reach the Hot 100 next week, it will give Lopez a chart span of 15 years, one month and one week.
The first single from A.K.A., "I Luh Ya Papi," jumps 18 to 13 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart. That trajectory should push it in the top 10 as early as next week.
WHERE’S THE 'FIRE': Phillip Phillips' "Raging Fire," the first single from his album Behind the Light, is moving up or standing pat on six different charts. Let’s review:
On Rock Airplay, "Fire" rises from No. 49 to No. 46. The track also moves up on Adult Contemporary Audience (7 to 6) and Adult Contemporary Audience (20 to 17). It’s holding on Adult Contemporary (No. 18), Triple A (No. 8) and Adult Top 40 (No. 8).
BITS AND PIECES: Daughtry’s new single, "Battleships," makes its first appearance on a Billboard chart, entering Adult Top 40 Audience at No. 40 … Carrie Underwood’s duet with Miranda Lambert, "Somethin' Bad," leaps 17 spots, from No. 48 to 31 on Hot Country Songs … Mandisa's "Back to You" breaks into the top 10 on Christian Hot AC, with a three-spot move to No. 10. The single jumps two to No. 12 on Hot Christian Songs, so a top 10 berth is likely in the next week or two … Lucy Hale's new single, "Nervous Girls," bows on Country Digital Songs at No. 48… Jennifer Hudson’s latest, "Walk It Out" (featuring Timbaland), holds at No. 22 on Adult R&B … Scotty McCreery’s "Feelin' It" inches up a spot, from No. 38 to No. 37, on Hot Country Songs.
