'American Idol' on the Charts: Jennifer Lopez Tops R&B/Hip-Hop Albums for First Time in 12 Years
"A.K.A.," the judge's latest release, debuts on six Billboard tallies and leads two of them.
HERE COMES THE JUDGE: The new Jennifer Lopez album, A.K.A., impacts this week's charts in a big way, debuting on six different lists. On two of those charts, Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Top R&B Albums, A.K.A. bows at No. 1. On the former, this is Lopez' first chart-topping set in over 12 years, since J to the L-O! The Remixes spent one week in first place in February 2002. A.K.A. is the third Lopez album to top this chart — her other CD to achieve pole position was J.Lo in February 2001. A.K.A. is the eighth Lopez album to appear on this chart and all have reached the top 10.
On The Billboard 200, A.K.A. bows at No. 8. It is Lopez’ 11th album to find its way to this survey and the eighth to achieve top 10 status. The other charts that welcome A.K.A. this week are Top Current Albums (No. 8), Top Digital Albums (No. 9) and Top Internet Albums (No. 13).
The second single from A.K.A., "First Love," also makes chart news, with a No. 87 debut on The Billboard Hot 100. This is Lopez' 27th song to make the Hot 100. She's had four No. 1s ("If You Had My Love," "I’m Real," "Ain’t It Funny" and "All I Have"). Of her 27 charted entries, 10 have made the top 10, most recently "On the Floor," which peaked at No. 3 in May 2011.
Elsewhere, "First Love" re-enters Pop Digital Songs at No. 36. On that same chart, another track from A.K.A., "Booty" (featuring Pitbull), is new at No. 50.
MORE 'MORE': Last week, this column reported that Colton Dixon's new song "More of You" made its first appearance on a Billboard chart by debuting on Christian Airplay. This week, the single rises 44 to 41 on that list and debuts on two other charts. The first single from Dixon's forthcoming sophomore album, Anchor, "More of You" opens on Christian Hot AC at No. 22 and Hot Christian Songs at No. 44.
'WALK' TALK: Jennifer Hudson's current single, "Walk It Out," featuring Timbaland, makes some nice chart moves this week, including a No. 7 debut on Bubbling Under Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. The track also enters R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay at No. 46 and climbs 25 to 24 on the Adult R&B tally.
BITS AND PIECES: Carrie Underwood's Blown Away storms 15 to 14 on Top Country Catalog Albums, while her duet with Miranda Lambert, "Somethin' Bad," jumps 14 to 11 on Country Streaming Songs and 28 to 26 on Country Airplay… Daughtry's Baptized rebounds from 168 to 154 in its 27th week on Top Current Albums while the latest single, "Battleships," holds at No. 35 on Adult Top 40… Phillip Phillips' "Raging Fire" maintains at No. 6 on Triple A and No. 14 on Adult Contemporary… Danny Gokey's "Hope in Front of Me" debuts at No. 30 on Christian Hot AC while standing pat at No. 17 on Christian Airplay and No. 18 on Christian Adult Contemporary. On Hot Christian Songs, "Hope" moves closer to the top 10 by marching from 14 to 11… Mandisa's "Back to You" advances 15 to 14 on Hot Christian Songs and is up 10 to 9 on Christian Airplay. The single holds at No. 10 on Christian Hot AC and No. 12 on Christian Adult Contemporary. The parent album, Overcomer, re-surges 31 to 21 on Top Christian Albums… Scotty McCreery's "Feelin’ It" spends another week at No. 39 on Country Airplay.
