'American Idol' on the Charts Valentine’s Day Edition: What's the Top Love Song By an Idol?
Take your best guess before reading below. Also, it’s not too early for a Grammy bump if your name is Kelly Clarkson.
BIG LOVE: In celebration of Valentine’s Day, a list of the top 50 love songs according to chart performance on the Hot 100 has been posted at www.billboard.com. To be eligible, a song had to have a form of the word “love” in the title. Using the same criterion, what is the No. 1 love song by an American Idol?
It’s a tricky (tricky, not “trick”) question because you want to start by searching through the repertoires of Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. But you won’t find the No. 1 love song there. You can look through the hits of Daughtry and you’ll have no luck. Here’s one more clue before the big reveal: The No. 1 love song, according to chart performance, on the Hot 100 is by an American Idol winner.

Give up? SPOILER ALERT, here’s the answer. The No. 1 love song by an Idol is “I Love You This Big” by Scotty McCreery. You won’t find a bigger song by an Idol with the word “love” in the title. In second place is the cover version of Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name” by season six runner-up Blake Lewis and in third place is “If This Isn’t Love” by season three’s seventh-place finalist Jennifer Hudson.
What is Billboard’s No. 1 love song of all time? You’ll find the entire top 50 here:
GRAMMY BUMP: The real sales boost that artists receive from appearing on the Grammys won’t show up until next week, but even though the show was broadcast on the last day of the sales week, one Idol has already benefited from an instant sales gain. Kelly Clarkson’s Stronger, winner of the Best Pop Vocal Album award, is one of those beneficiaries, with a rebound of 180-128 on The Billboard 200 album chart.
