'American Idol': 'Now and Then' Theme Includes Songs by Lady Gaga, Adele, Marvin Gaye
Also on tap for Wednesday's show: soul classics, two tunes by Alicia Keys and perhaps a little Mantasia?
The present and past will collide when American Idol's Top 7 battle it out on tonight's "Now and Then"-themed show. Among the artists whose songs are on tap: Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys, Adele and Marvin Gaye.
Idol musical director Ray Chew again tweeted a teaser of the performance-night set list just prior to Wednesday's kickoff, which separates 14 songs into two categories: hits from the past decade and soul classics.
The spirit of Haley Reinhart again will hang heavily over the theater, as one finalist (Hollie Cavanagh, perhaps?) will bravely take on Adele's hit "Rolling in the Deep." Didn't Jimmy Iovine declare Adele off limits? Clearly, someone missed the memo.
The evening's song choices also offer a little double vision: There are two songs each from Lady Gaga (will Elise Testone go for Gaga again after last week's performance of "You and I"?), Keys (including the done-to-death "Fallin' ") and Gaye.
Other selections include Dusty Springfield's "Son of a Preacher Man" (paging Skylar Laine), Otis Redding's "Try a Little Tenderness" (please let it be Phillip Phillips) and Fantasia's "I Believe" (our guess is Joshua "Mantasia" Ledet).
Here are tonight's song selections:
Now
"No One," Alicia Keys
"I Believe," Fantasia
"Rolling in the Deep," Adele
"U Got It Bad," Usher
"Born This Way," Lady Gaga
"Fallin'," Alicia Keys
"Bad Romance," Lady Gaga
Then
"In the Midnight Hour," Wilson Pickett
"A Change Is Gonna Come," Sam Cooke
"September," Earth, Wind & Fire
"Son of a Preacher Man," Dusty Springfield
"Try a Little Tenderness," Otis Redding
"I Heard It Through the Grapevine," Marvin Gaye
"Let's Get It On," Marvin Gaye
