'American Idol's' Phillip Phillips Debuts Original Song (Video)
The Season 11 victor unveiled "Take Me Away" during a performance at Philadelphia radio station Mix 106.1.
Ever since Phillip Phillips won American Idol back in May, he has talked excitedly about recording his own songs. He described his future music as acoustic, jazz-based and alternative, and on Tuesday, Phillips finally got the opportunity to perform a new tune for fans.
Phillips debuted "Take Me Away" in front of an intimate audience of radio listeners at Mix 106.1 in Philadelphia, after which he tweeted his 500,000 Twitter followers with the message, "I know you guys have been wanting an original.. here's one. hope ya like it."
Moody, stark and pining, the song contains the lyrics, "Won't you take me from the clouds buried in grey / All the colors are mixing in my head / I can't see which way / Only see you out of thousands coming my way / You're all I want to see / All I want to touch and feel in every way" and features Phillips attempting his best Jim Morrison-meets-James Morrison vocals. Could it be representative of the direction Phillips will take on his future album? We should hear soon enough.
