Danny Gokey Announces Engagement
The "American Idol" alum revealed his plan to wed girlfriend Leyicet Peralta via the charity website Sophia's Heart, which honors his late wife, Sophia.
Three years after the death of his wife Sophia, American Idol season 8 alum Danny Gokey announced his plans to marry girlfriend Leyicet Peralta.
The musician made his announcement via the website Sophia's Heart, which raises money in honor of Gokey's late wife, Sophia, who died in 2008 after a routine heart surgery.
According to the site, Gokey recently began telling his family and friends of the engagement and the duo are planning to wed in late January 2012.
Gokey tweeted Tuesday, "No one can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending."
The couple also released a statement, saying, "We are thankful for so many of the blessings God has given us. It is our desire to see homeless children and families be kept together and lifted back on their feet through the help of Sophia’s Heart. We love and appreciate you all.”
They asked the well-wishers and wedding guests make a donation to Sophia's Heart instead of giving gifts.STORY: 'American Idol' Alum Danny Gokey Parts Ways With RCA Nashville (Exclusive) "He is thrilled to have found Leyicet who also shares his passion and desire to help children and families in need," said the site.
