Lauren Alaina Loses Voice, Still Performs on Final 'Idol' Performance Show
UPDATED: An "Idol" doctor said that, during practice, "she blew out one of her vocal cords."
Despite losing her voice, Lauren Alaina was able to perform on tonight's final American Idol performance show.
Leading up to the live performance, Alaina was dealing with voice issues, and there were reports that third runner-up Haley Reinhart might replace her.
An Idol doctor said that, during practice, "she blew out one of her vocal cords." The doctor likened it to "a runner with a badly sprained ankle" and said Alaina was given "a lot of medication."
Alaina's first song -- chosen by the contestant as their best of the season -- was Carrie Underwood's "Flat on the Floor."
