'American Idol' Tour Plans Unchanged Despite Phillip Phillips' Kidney Surgery

With the July 6 kick-off nearly a month away, concert representatives maintain the recent victor will not be missing any dates.

Less than a week after the season finale, the health of winner Phillip Phillips remains at the center of the American Idol discussion.

The 21-year-old singer underwent eight surgeries during his time on the series to treat a buildup of kidney stones. Caused by a congenital condition, the stones have rendered his right kidney largely ineffective, prompting him to temporarily rely on a stint and the need for an operation that would bring about a more permanent solution.

That surgery, scheduled to take place the first week of June, finds Phillips going under the knife only a month before the latest cast of the Fox series embarks on a 45-date U.S. tour -- and a representative for Idol producers 19 Entertainment says Phillips is still a lock for the July 6 kick-off in Detroit.

Following cancellations in 2010 and rebounding attendance last summer, tickets for the latest American Idol tour went on sale May 11. One early show in Jackson, Mississippi, has already sold out.

Standard recovery time for Phillips' procedure has been cited as six weeks, but all parties involved have been consistent in the messaging that the latest Idol will be present for all dates.

The American Idol tour is scheduled to go through July and Aug before wrapping up Sept. 11 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
